A new year, a new president, a new book – four weeks after solstice, a little late. I regard this book as a memoir of the present, which is rapidly disappearing.
In fact the book is really late. When I began it, I wanted to finish by 2000, in time for Jesse Jackson and the Rainbow Coalition to take over the White House. However data continued to accumulate in my notebooks, Jesse never made it and I wrote throughout the Bush years.
The book is dense and the first two chapters are difficult. Because of its density I was going to post 10-12 pages a week but a chapter a week makes more sense.
